
HALLSVILLE – A private animal rescue will hold a fundraiser Feb. 24 to raise money right after it lost more than two dozen dogs in a fire over the weekend.
The Little Rays of Sunshine Animal Rescue, located at the 10, 000 block of East Van Court Road, caught open fire early Sunday morning .
“It was sickening, ” owner Jordan Alexander said. “These weren’t just normal foster canines. We made sure we treated each dog like they were our own part of our family. ”
A neighbor called 911 around 1 a. m. Sunday. When crews from the Boone County Fire Protection District (BCFPD) arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames and the roof was partially collapsing.

Alexander’s family founded the particular rescue within October 2019. They then built the rescue in April 2021, and Alexander said it has helped an estimated 500 dogs, including Sarah Judd’s canine, Ichabod.
“Our first thought when we heard the news was if we hadn’t adopted him after that who knows what could have happened, ” Judd said.
She adopted Ichabod in October after teaching a puppy yoga class at the particular rescue.
“He was part of the liter of puppies for that puppy yoga session, ” Judd said. “The whole time I had been teaching yoga, he was climbing up on my shoulders. I felt like we were creating a special bond. ”
Judd said Ichabod is her daughter’s best friend, and she’s so happy to see the people supporting Little Sun rays of Sunlight Animal Save in this difficult time.
“I love that the community is coming out to support Little Rays of Sunshine, ” Judd said. “I hope everybody can donate or come out to the fundraiser. ”
The pet rescue will hold the particular fundraiser on Feb. twenty-four from 6: 30 in order to 10 p. m. in the Bob LeMone Building on the Hallsville Fairgrounds. Alexander stated there will certainly be a live band, corn hole tournament, and possibly a food truck.
